Friday 29th Oct......a beautiful drive up and over Mount Subasio

It's a beautiful morning again and a perfect day to drive up and over Mount Subasio.
View on way up of the valley below Assisi
We are not sure and couldn't find out what this sculpture is all about. At first we thought it was an old tree stump but not so, it's bronze.
We are up on the top plateau now. The views from here are awesome.
From down in Assisi Mt Subasio looks all trees but when you get up here there are rolling hills and large grassland areas.
Michael thought this would be a good place for a golf course.
It's bracing up here but so beautiful.
The owner of the villa where we are staying was surprised there is snow already on the far mountain range.
We are told that in the summer the Italians flock here with their picnics and sun loungers but today we have, apart from one or two mushroom pickers, the mountain to ourselves.
The grassland is common land. Many horses and cattle graze here for the summer.
Assisi from the top of Mt Subasio, amazing.
Another bronze statue, shame we couldn't find out what they represent.
The road which actually wasn't that bad.
The village of Collepino, we stopped here on Sunday for a coffee and we revisited today to stop for a beer but sadly the bar/restaurant was closed. Being good boy scouts we did have our packed lunch with us !
We have been invited to the apartment of our fellow olive pickers this evening for a pasta supper. We shall all be careful of the red wine intake as they fly back to UK tomorrow and we want to make an early start for our 6 hour drive

OK, IMPORTANT INFORMATION........we move on tomorrow to the Gargano Peninsular to Monte Sant' Angelo where we will be staying for a week. They do not have any internet connection at the apartment so the blog (I know big tears!!) will be off line BUT I will do an update when we get to Lecce. We have identified wifi hotspots in the town and hope to sit and have a glass of wine and catch up on emails at some stage during the week.
Have a great weekend everyone.

  1. I think I know what the first Bronze statue is all about, I think it pays homage to the dinosaur we had on Southseas seafront until it goot fire. It is almost an exact replica of the aftermath!

  2. I've no idea wht I meant to type when I used the word 'goot', it should say 'caught' fire!

  3. Thanks for all the Assissi photographs, certainly captured my imagination. Enjoy the next few days, it will be good not to have to upload every night, though a big effort when you do hit civilisation again. Could take some time, maybe there will be a golf course nearby for Michael! Enjoy!!

Thanks for comments, we have had a laugh about the "goot" perhaps that's what the sculpture is called !!

Michael is trying to visualise a golf course as we haven't even seen signs to one !!!!
