Saturday 23rd October... Castiglione del Lago on Lago Trasimeno

Today we go back up the E45 to Lago Trasimeno to visit Castiglione del Lago. This pic is the Castle.
View of castle from our coffee stop spot !
View of lake from the town
Unusual turret as it is triangular rather than square
Who's this man walking towards me.......
Town hall, we know that cos it's got a tower !
Not sure what this is but it looks old !!!!
Part of the old town walls
View of lake.
Castiglione del Lago is very much a summer holiday spot on the lake, shallow waters and a long beach making it the ideal spot. We are now off season and have it more or less to ourselves  so we were able to take a nice peaceful walk along the shoreline. We did read somewhere that there are a lot of mosquitoes in the summer, understandably, but they had a problem with some that were malarial. To overcome this problem they introduced a type of fish that eats the lavae and also had a spraying program....ummmm We decided against a swim or eating locally caught fish !

  1. Hi Poppet,

Is this castle in a film, it looks very familiar?

  2. Hi Kelly,
It may well have been but I can't find anything specific about it in any of the brochures here. We were talking to someone in Assisi about Castiglione del Lago as she was staying there and we feel she mentioned something about a film. It could well have been in a film about Hannibal (not Lecter, the other one !) as he won a big battle against the Romans at Lago Trasimeno.

    Poppet xx
