Monday 11th October A chilling day

Sorry folks no photos today, we have been extremely lazy, apart from going back down to Assisi to the supermarket to stock up on vitals . Weather a bit grey during the day but that helped us decide not to change our minds and go walking !

My boy cooked a yummy meal, roasted vegetables with roast meat which turned out to be pork !
We couldn't decide in the supermarket what it was, I thought lamb, himself thought beef (our Italian dictionary/phrase book didn't quite run to a translation) but it was definitely pork and it was delicious, loads of flavour !

We have just been for short walk up to the pool area to absorb the wonder of the crystal clear skies and brilliant stars. One forgets how fantastic it is to see the Milky Way in all it's splendor.
Naturally the song for today must be Pucini's "E lucevan le stelle" (the stars were brightly shining) from Tosca

I'm sure most of you know but if you wish to see a photo more clearly just click on it and it will enlarge in all it's glory !!!

Many thanks for the comments so far it really is appreciated to know there is someone out there reading my drivel

  1. I googled the turtle question and this is the sanest answer i saw:
Because in mid age (XV Century) they thought that this animal would be immortal...So it is for "long life" a good wish..
Francis from town of Florence- Italy

But it seems its only prevalent in Florence. I remember in Rome seeing lots of elephants in statues, probably for the same reason!

  2. Thank you Alan for info, makes sense. I forgot to mention also that in the grounds of the Pitti Palace a statue of the court jester (who for some reason is shown as Bacchus)is astride (more genitalia)a turtle too. Do have to say it was quite a gruesome statue, not really to our taste.
We hope all well in Singapore and you are getting time for relaxing in between the work
