Thursday 21st Oct......Assisi in sunshine and mist

Oh my goodness I "overslept", didn't wake up until 08.45 !!! Unheard of !! However we had planned a relaxing day so..... .....

We pop down to Assisi and there's an incredible phenomena, we are in brilliant sunshine but the valley is covered in mist/fog it makes for great viewing.

We walked up to the fort (The Rocca) area where the whole of Assisi is laid out below us and bits of it were rising up out of the mist.

We spent a couple of hours wandering around and enjoying the views, we sat for a while in one of the main piazzas enjoying a glass of wine and people watching before coming back to the villa and a peaceful and relaxing afternoon reading our books.
I would like to mention here that we like others have always critised Greece for their toilets, although they have improved over the last 10 years or so. Italian toilets are terrible even in smart cafes/restaurants, they are much worse than Greece. The autostrada rest stops are also as bad as our English ones. I guess we were spoilt earlier in the year in the USA with the excellent rest areas on the interstates where we never had a bad one.
Chef has done his thing again this evening and once more produced a yummy meal, left over beef sliced thinly with caramalised onions and warmed goats cheese on a bed of radicchio and lettuce...
